Prop 8 overturned in California

The proposition 8 ruling, which deals with the same sex marriage ban in California, was banned by the court. This has raised a series of celebrations among the Hollywood fraternity as many of them have expressed their happiness in their Tweeter accounts.

Chief US District Judge Vaughn Walker has stated the Prop 8 ruling as unconstitutional and said it used to violate the civil rights. Ellen Degeneres has mentioned in Tweeter that finally, equality has won at the end of the day. Kim Kardashian also said that it shows that time has come and it is now the moment to celebrate. Ricky Martin was too happy over the developments, as the star has announced in the month of March that he was a gay.

Interestingly, the gay marriage in California was legalized by the state Supreme Court and in November 2008, it was banned by the voters by passing the Proposition 8, just five months after the court order was passed.

To quote the judge Walker while passing the judgment, “Proposition 8 fails to advance any rational basis in singling out gay men and lesbians for denial of a marriage license.”
Political experts are of the opinion that the new ruling may have given a new twist to the elections which are due to be held in California this November.
