4th of July Celebrated With Fireworks And Hot Dog Eating Contest

United States celebrated 4th of July, their 235th Independence Day with much pomp and van dour. The day was celebrated with fireworks, parades and barbecues. There was celebration in the form of White House birthday and many competitive eating parties were organized.

Though many events are organized marking the celebration of America’s Independence Day, the display of fireworks at different places was a real favorite to the crowd. The sky everywhere was full with lights, colors and sound. The message was clear – America, you are free and independent.

The annual fireworks show was held on the National Mall and thousands came to the Washington monument to witness the spectacular fireworks show. Crowds were seen wearing Hawaiian shirts and shorts and skiing along the snowy slopes at the different resorts from California to Colorado.

On the Coney Island of New York, the annual famous Nathan’s July 4th hot dog eating contest was organized. The big names of competitive eating participated in the hot dog eating contest and people joined in hundreds setting aside the worries of high calories.

In this famous hot dog eating contest, Joey “Jaws” Chestnut of San Jose won the first prize by eating 62 hot dogs during a span of ten minutes. The interesting part of the event is that it is his fifth win in five consecutive years. In the female category, the Sonya “The Black Widow” went on to become the winner by eating 40 hot dogs. This is just one short of her total of 2009.

4th of July is celebrated as the birthday of United States. It is also the 13th birthday of Malia Obama, the eldest daughter of President Obama. The President and the first lady Michelle Obama invited members of the troops and families in a special barbecue organized on the South Lawn. In fact, the President is also approaching his 50th birthday on August 4th this year.
