India will have to be aggressive to hold the ICC number one position

In spite of leveling the series on the final day of the third test against Sri Lanka, India has to maintain its aggressive stance in order to retain the ICC world number ranking in Test Cricket. India is going to face Australia and New Zealand on the home ground in the coming months.

If India wants to hold the top spot position in ICC ranking, they will have to win the test series and also maintain a good batting and bowling average like what they are doing now. India’s main line of concern is the pace line of attack since the ace pacers Zaheer Khan and S. Sreesanth are suffering from injuries and hence were asked to take rest in the current Sri Lanka series.

If Zaheer does not become fit before the upcoming tri-series, India will really have to face a testing time. They may try out with new bowlers as the cricket world cup is due in 2011 and before it needs to be seen how much the team can put together.

But India’s traditional strength is in their spin bowling and Pragyan Ojha and Amit Mishra have successfully shown their talent in the Sri Lanka series. The batting side of Team India is really strong with Virendar Shewag playing some wonderful innings with Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman. The ton by Laxman helped India to level the series against Sri Lanka. Finally, it is congratulations to MS Dhoni and his team members.
