Experts have been repeatedly warning that the number of cancer patients could go up to 30% in UK by 2030. This warning seems to be true when World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) reveals a data on World Cancer Day on Saturday that the UK is the 16th out of 27 countries in the European Union for the foretold rise in such cases.  It’s really a serious issue since the challenges due to the growing number of cancer patients is seemingly rising due to lack of people’s consciousness. So it has become very much necessary to start vigorous campaigns against the fatal disease.

Estimates shows in 2030 there will be 396,000 new patients suffering from cancer in the UK compared with 304,000 new cases were found in 2008 – a 30% rise.

This data may be different to facts released by Cancer Research UK during October, which estimated the number of new cancer cases in the UK could increase by 45% between 2007 and 2030 to 432,000 annually.

The increases could be due to several factors, particularly because of ageing population. Since the developed countries with higher income population tend to have higher level of obesity along with alcohol consumption and lack of physical exercise, therefore the risk of cancer also gets higher.

WCRF spokeswoman Dr Rachel Thompson has pointed out some interesting facts regarding cancer. He said nearly one third of the most common cancers in the UK and several other high income countries could be checked if people start following a healthy diet plan and become more physically active.

Since the recent facts and figures show an alarming truth that the estimated number of cancer patients in between 2008 and 2030 is 67% – from 12.6 million to 21.2 million across the world therefore cancer awareness programs become will be more inevitable to fight the disease. After months of anxieties and apprehensions ‘Agneepath’ got released on 26^th January. And on its opening day it showed a remarkable box office collection. The film has made a potential business at the domestic box-office on the fourth day. The film starred heavy weight actors like Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra and Sanjay Dutt and it was produced by none other than Karan Johar who has given us so many blockbuster movies in the past. This time it has collected approximately Rs 69 crore in the first weekend. The film has been directed by debutant Karan Malhotra.

The film has made a grand opening record of 23 crores beating the first day collection of ‘Bodyguard’ and ‘Ra.One’.  The film earned Rs 23 crore on the opening day, however, it’s collection went down on Friday since it was a working day and could fetch only 12.75 crore. On Saturday, the collection again jumped to Rs 15.85 crore and on Sunday, it could earn a growth of approximately Rs 17.5 crore.

Dharma Productions ‘Agneepath’ is an official remake of the olden day’s blockbuster. Hrithik Roshan played the character of Dinanath Chauhan which was earlier played by Amitabh Bachhan. So it was a great challenge itself for Hrithik. In an interview the actor said, “Yes, extremely nervous and empty. Playing Vijay Dinanath Chauhan somewhere depleted me I guess. I needed something to fill me up again before I started “ Krrish 2“. I was afraid that if I didn’t get that pat on the back, my next journey would become extremely tough and burdened. Anyways all that is history now, I’m all fuelled up and ready for the biggest challenge yet again.”  Bollywood queen Priyanka Chopra also did her job marvelous. It is really an American dream getting shattered by the Indian drug manufacturer Ranbaxy Laboratories. The US department of Justice has filed a permanent injunction on this Indian drug manufacturer against selling medicines in the American market.

Ranbaxy Laboratories entered the American market about three months back with the cholesterol reducing Lipitor (Atorvastatin). They entered with a bang as the patent of Pfizer expired. The consent decree was filed by the Justice Department in the US District court of Maryland. The appeal was made with the initiative of the Food and Drug Administration.

Explaining the reason for the permanent injunction, Department of Justice said that they have found many problems with the drug manufacturing process and testing in their India and also at the US facilities owned by Ranbaxy Inc.

After investigation, it was found that no records were maintained to show that drug manufacturing was going on properly and it was found that drugs were unable to meet their specifications. Ranbaxy was also failing to separate the manufacture of penicillin drugs from non-penicillin drugs and that may bring in cross-contamination. The procedures for contamination of sterile drugs were also not adequate. Testing of drugs was also insufficient to see that drugs will be able to maintain their strength and effectiveness till their date of expiry.

On the 63^rd Republic day, India and Thailand decided to frame a duty free agreement which can be concluded towards the middle of this year. This duty free agreement with Thailand may have far reaching consequences and may double the bilateral trade between the two countries to $14 billion by the year 2014.

Under the present terms, there is a tariff exemption on 80 items and this agreement may add some more to the list. The list of these 80 items was included in the agreement that was signed in the year 2004. Incidentally, first woman Prime Minister of Thailand Yingluck Shinawatra is the official guest at the 63^rd Republic Day parade. The significance of the Indian Republic Day is that on this date in 1950, the Constitution of India was written and adapted.

The National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) receives more than a dozen complaints every day regarding the problems patients face when they visit the primary health centers and also the sub-centers. In many cases, patients are sending complaints about the absence of doctors when they are going for treatment.

Moreover, the government has launched 104 services about a week ago with the objective of providing medical service to the patients. The more stress of this service was to improve the healthcare services in the rural areas. The medical services are not so effective in the rural areas as they are in the urban areas.

A drug addict has recently complained to NHRM there was an acute increase of drug addict cases in some selected areas of Sikar district. Most of the patients are making the complaints against the medical staff and doctors who are working in the rural areas.
